CyberGhost VPN Review

Contents

CyberGhost VPN is great for streaming. There are over 50 streaming servers in 10 different countries and they work seamlessly with streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and BBC iPlayer. During my testing, CyberGhost’s streaming servers worked as expected. It provided seamless access to both popular and less popular streaming platforms.

CyberGhost also has industry-standard security features like 256-bit AES encryption and a hash key, plus these extras:

  • Servers optimized for high security and speed.
  • Dedicated peer-to-peer (P2P) servers.
  • Dedicated game servers.
  • Smart Rules to customize your CyberGhost VPN application.
  • Adblocker.

Although CyberGhost’s parent company has been criticized for its poor security practices in the past, there is nothing to fear that CyberGhost is unreliable. CyberGhost has a strict no-logs policy. It protects all user data from hackers and leaks. It’s also proven to use the highest privacy and security standards.

While there are many things I love about CyberGhost VPN, I still think there are a few areas where it could improve. My biggest complaint is that CyberGhost doesn’t work in countries with severe internet restrictions like China or Iran. I also wish CyberGhost VPN would improve its adblocker as well. During my tests, the ad blocker failed to block ads on many sites.

Despite these issues, CyberGhost VPN is great for streaming, torrenting, gaming, and surfing in 2022. It’s fast, secure, and extremely affordable with a 3-year subscription plan.

CyberGhost VPN offers subscription plans of 1 month, 6 months, and 2 years (this plan usually comes with 3 months of free usage). The 6-month and 2-year plans come with a 45-day money-back guarantee, while the 1-month plan offers 14 days.

CyberGhost VPN Full Review

I’ve spent weeks testing to see if CyberGhost VPN is truly one of the best VPNs on the market.

Despite having received some criticism about its parent company in the past (and several VPN reviews that didn’t do their research well), CyberGhost has consistently been strong in how it handles user privacy and information (and its architecture has been independently audited and validated multiple times).

CyberGhost performs very well, offers plenty of functionality, and works with all popular streaming services. It’s also among the most intuitive and easy-to-use VPNs available.

CyberGhost VPN Features

CyberGhost VPN has all the standard security features I’ve come to expect from a premium VPN:

  1. 256-bit AES encryption – Often referred to as “military-grade” encryption.
  2. Disconnect switch – This feature disconnects your internet connection when your VPN connection drops.
  3. Zero logging policy – No data about internet usage or connection is logged.

CyberGhost lets you connect from 7 devices simultaneously. That’s more than major competitors like ExpressVPN and TunnelBear (both offer use from 5 devices). However, if you want to connect more than 7 devices, you can also consider Private Internet Access (10 devices), ProtonVPN (10 devices), VyprVPN (30 devices), or IPVanish (unlimited simultaneous connections).

CyberGhost VPN supports 3 VPN protocols: OpenVPN, IKEv2, and WireGuard. However, some of these protocols are not found in certain applications. For example, IKEv2 is not available on Android, while OpenVPN is not automatically installed on macOS. To add OpenVPN to macOS, you need to use a third-party app called Tunnelblick (note that this is not an easy process for non-technical users).

CyberGhost does not support IPv6, so all traffic using this protocol is vulnerable to leaks. But I like that CyberGhost disables IPv6 by default.

CyberGhost also offers many extra features.

Split Tunnel

CyberGhost VPN Features Only the Android version of CyberGhost VPN has a split tunnel (called App Split Tunnel). This feature allows you to choose which apps connect via VPN and which apps over your local network.

Smart Rules

CyberGhost VPN FeaturesCyberGhost’s Smart Rules feature (available on Windows and Mac only) allows you to customize your VPN preferences. All you have to do is toggle a button to enable or disable a particular function.

No-Spy Servers

CyberGhost’s NoSpy servers provide more security and higher speed than CyberGhost’s regular servers.

CyberGhost states that NoSpy servers contain premium hardware with a dedicated satellite link that makes them faster than other servers. These NoSpy servers have ample bandwidth suitable for downloading and uploading large files.

CyberGhost VPN Privacy & Security

CyberGhost VPN has a zero logs policy. This policy means that CyberGhost does not store logs of your IP address, connection timestamp, browsing history, and downloads.

CyberGhost VPN collects the standard information that all VPNs get, such as your email address and payment information. However, this information is only used for payment and communication purposes (such as emailing updates or resetting your password).
